13 february 2000 undeniable funk ----- ------- ----- Today was the Loyola Marymount University Wine Classic, an event where a load of wineries from all over California set up little booths in a very large room, and the general public is invited to come taste at $65/pop. At least they give you free cheese, crackers, assorted munchables, and of course, a souvenir wine glass. I made the mistake of showing up at this extravaganza with an empty stomach. Fifteen minutes after arriving, I had a seriously fucked fermented grape headrush, and I stumbled out of the Gerston Pavilion for some fresh air. (Gerston Pavilion. The House that Hank Built. Hank Gathers, that is. Most famous LMU basketball player, he died of cardiomyapathy, on the court, just about where the Miner Family Vineyard had their tasting booth set up today -- they had an incredible Cabernet ... oh well, here's to Hank.) I tasted enough wine today to keep myself off the stuff for at least a month or so. The weather was miserable again, alternating pouring and misting, grey ... come to think of it, I'm still miserable too. Went to IceDog's after tasting ... sat around and moped while him and Wamba mixed down tunes for our band-produced cd. My communication was limited to affirmative and negative grunts when asked if I liked a certain mix. The band is playing again, same place, on the 26th. They booked the gig a week ago, and I've just been too lazy (or something) to mention it to anyone. I'm carrying around this "yeah, whatever" vibe like one of those people who dresses in black, looks down on everyone, and considers themself special in their complete lack of social skills or will to get along with other human beings. Someday I'm gonna figure this all out. Then I won't feel compelled to think about it anymore. I wonder what I'll do then ... Yeah, whatever. ~~~ one year ago: buying roses.
