No, I will not move back to New Jersey and start a band with you. I have no luck with bands in New Jersey. Five years at Rutgers and I couldn't get one decent band going. If ya wanna get yer butt out to LA though, lemme know and we'll talk.

Then again, if ya wanna meet me in Detroit...

A couple of years ago, someone emailed me a "ya-gotta-read-this-thing" movie script called "American Beauty." It sat in my "attachments" folder for a month before I finally got around to it. And I sat there for three hours, captivated, praying by the page that they would someday make it into an actual movie. I so identified with the main character, more attracted to his faults than I was to his virtues. For his so-called faults, in my mind, _were_ his virtues. By the time I was finished reading, I was praying they _wouldn't_ make the movie. There was no way in hell it could do justice to the script.

But they made it anyway. And it won the Oscar (tm) for Best Picture. And I never bothered to see it. Until tonight, when I picked it up at the local video store.

I knew I'd be disappointed, but I didn't know how much. Frankly, I was kinda surprised that I truly enjoyed it. While it hardly approached the emotional impact of the script I read, it was still a gripping experience. I was even more surprised that there was one element of the movie that I thought improved upon the script, which involved the elimination of a bunch of courtroom and jail scenes showing who was found "guilty" (and implied to later be exonerated) of the film's central crime. All in all, it was a shockingly faithful representation of what I had originally read, and for that, and for once, I am thankful to "Hollywood."

Woke up surprisingly refreshed this morning, considering my unexpected travels of the last couple of days. Headed down to the office to deal with more email problems caused by the general ignorance and incompetence of my coworkers. Why do these people even bother to use computers if they have no desire to _use_ them? Then again, why do some people I know even bother to stay alive if they have no desire to live their lives? I dunno, lately it seems to me that everyone is afraid either of dying or running out of money, and they carve their existences entirely to avoid those two scenarios. Is that living?

Angel called after lunch, telling me that the band hired a new promoter and that his first coup-de-etat (sp? -- what is it with me and these crazy french things I can't spell?) was to book us for this Saturday afternoon at the "Best of LA" festival in Santa Monica. Whoop-dee-do, I thought, so much for a relaxing weekend. Instead of spending a perfectly good day-off lying around the apartment, watching satellite tv, and feeling sorry for myself, now I would have to get off my ass and up on stage at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon and "perform." What the fuck is the "Best of LA" festival anyway?

Nonetheless, I blasted the band's email list with the news, and told a few friends. "a few friends" told me back that they were already planning to be at the "Best of LA" festival, how it was this "huge" event and "how in hell did your band get a slot there?"

Um ... ok.

So maybe this gig is not such a bad thing. Maybe I'm just menstrual and whiny because I only have five days notice to mentally prepare. Mentally prepare for what? Maybe I'm just insane.

Tired is more like it ... kinda senseless too. I'm falling asleep as I type. And before midnight too. Seems the vegas trip has finally caught up with me. Whoa, just dozed off for a minute ... time to go nighty night, yadayadayada...

In the forum:
ever had a crazy trip to las vegas?

17 july 1998: slim : Having a penis really sucks sometime. OK, maybe "sucks" was the wrong word. Let's just say that the day my mind and my dick become friends, well, all will be well, birds will chirp, and angels will sing.
