geek physique

give me the courage
to open myself to you
honest without fear

In light of the success of the Roxy gig, Band Management has decided that I am to have a bit more flashy stage presence. In the past, I've been wearing mostly black, with red highlights, as can be evidenced in our most popular promotional photo which can be seen here. Well, not anymore. In a series of PCS phone conversations with Angel and Ice Fairy these past few days, it has been decided that my new onstage attire is to take a different direction...

Let's start with the feet. Brightly colored canvas Chuck Taylor Converse All-Star high-top sneakers. No socks. No problem, I've done that before, and the tread will be good for the volume and sustain pedals I currently keep slipping on. Moving upwards: pants. Well, either very short pants or baggy shorts, enough to show my bare ankles and calves. Obnoxiously colored or patterned. My upper body? A sports jacket, preferably purchased at a second-hand store or thrift shop. A tie to go with it. The kicker: no shirt. They want me on stage bare-chested beneath the jacket and tie.

Um...

I have a problem exposing my measly upper body to a men's locker room, let alone from the stage in front of hundreds of people. Geek physique, indeed. Strangely enough, I'm kind of looking forward to it. Step outside yourself, conquer your greatest fears, something like that. At the very least, I'm quite well toned...

Who the fuck am I kidding?

Next gig's on sunday night at a Mexican social club in Wilmington. It's an automatic "standing room only" packed house, set up by management as a "breather gig" and also as a way to get us more "in" with the Latino community. Not the greatest neighborhood, from what I've heard -- all the band members were instructed that this is _not_ an official show and we are not to promote it in any way.

Oops.

So, our next show will be on April 22 at The Gig on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood. Just disregard that last paragraph.

And word has it the Roxy wants us back as well. Maybe in May. Who knows? The music industry is so weird, and yet I'm loving music more and more every day.

On a brighter note, I burned our demo cd to MP3 tonight and uploaded it to the band website. You can hear four of our tunes here.

Rock City News wrote us up, but their website sucks and the only reference you can find of it is at the bottom of this stupid image here, which really sucks since I haven't seen the actual newspaper yet and I have no "Page 19" to continue reading the article on.

I'm almost ready to quit my job, maybe even by the end of this week. I have two offers pending, one solid for a CTO position in Santa Monica, the other not-so-solid for a Director of Information Architecture, which, although it would pay more, doesn't sound quite as good as CTO, and nor is it quite as cool of a job in the reality of it all.

And all I really want to do is play music. Too bad it don't pay the bills. Yet.

Moving to Malibu on May 1. My first change-of-residence in 6 1/2 years. Too anxious to write about it just yet.

Or maybe I'm just tired...
