knock-patter

I am, in essence, quite lost.

It was about a week ago, at band practice, that the phenomenon first presented itself to me, or to the whole band, to be more precise. It was, for lack of a better description, a strange knock-pattering.

"Someone's knocking on the door," said IceDog. "Check it out."

Seconds later, we realized there was no-one there.

And yet the knock-pattering continued. We isolated it to my Leslie 122 speaker cabinet, but then it seemed to be coming from Casanova's bass amp, and then all of a sudden from the PA. Wamba declared it "something in the walls of the building."

And yet it always seemed to be coming out of one of our amps...

IceDog mentioned something about the building being haunted by two eight-year-old mischief-makers, and the whole band seemed to buy it, and we continued with our rehearsal, ignoring the strange knock-pattering.

Friday night, I was making a mix-cd for a friend in the living room here in Malibu. Roommate's gear, roommate's cd's. I'm burning a copy of Collective Soul's "Run," and all of a sudden, out of the speakers, there's the same-exact knock-patter.

(it never recorded onto the cd)

At this point I started thinking ... ok. maybe it's me. Maybe I'm carrying some strange electromagnetic vibe in my blood that makes guitar amps and Hammond B3 amps and the roommate's home theater cabinets go crazy with knock-patter. Maybe it's _me_ that's haunted...

I still blew it off.

Now tonight, 11:23pm, getting into bed, booting up the iBook to write who-knows-what, I hear it, from the corner of my bedroom, from the speakers of my personal stereo system ... knock-patter-knock-patter-knock ... it's the same friggin thing I heard in the band studio on thursday, it's the same friggin thing I heard downstairs on friday, and it's starting to friggin freak me out.

Either there's a ghost that's shadowing me, or my brain's electromagnetic waves are fucking with amplifiers. Either way, it ain't something I wanna think about too much, lest it scare me to insanity...

... as if I wasn't already there.

My roommate is smoking. In the bathroom. Does he think I can't tell? 51 days without a cigarette and my senses are too sharp for comfort. And I don't mind. But I find it strange that he was the one that told me, when I moved in, that smoking was not allowed indoors. And here he's doing it. And if I was still a smoker, I wouldn't even be smelling it. But now I'm oh-so-ultra sensitive to smokers, and the disgusting smell that comes with them, or me, as I was, and may be again.

51 days. Not bad, huh?

I'm going to sleep. Today's picture: Rachel didn't quite like it, or her half-of-it, so I sensed. The one of me she took, and vice versa for her. The two photos were snapped at the same time is what I'm trying to say. She of me, me of her. No, neither of us really "look like that," but still, there's something about it that works, in that sense that I can't explain, a frozen moment? I dunno. I hesitated before uploading it, but now I know why I did. I honestly think that Rachel looks incredible. Eyes can speak wonders sometimes. And beauty has so many facets...

As for me, can I have my own eyes back?

:)

Closing them now...

21 november 1997: travelogue : About a second later a rather agitated sounding air traffic controller came on and said "That was United 23 turn left ... United 2373 remain on previous course." And then our pilot said "Oops, United 2373 reverting to previous course." And then our plane banked pretty sharply to the right and all was normal.
