a change of outlook My alarm woke me at 8:30 this morning, the result of an assumed handslip of last night, as I must have accidentally advanced the time a bit. Nonetheless, I hit the "snooze button" quite automatically, and it was 9 by the time I realized that it wasn't 7, and I vaulted out of the bed into the shower, propelled by one of those "oh-shit" panics that so often accompany the sudden realization of oversleep. Five minutes later, in the bedroom, fully dressed, I can't find my cellphone. Must have left it in the car... Five minutes later, in the car, I still can't find my cellphone. There's a bag of Pepperidge Farms Cheddar Goldfish® Baked Snack Crackers on the floor. I picked it up for our recording session last night, and only finished half the bag. I resist ingesting it for breakfast. I throw the iBook on the seat, and take off for work. Six minutes later, in the office parking garage, my cellphone is ringing. It's coming from the area of the passenger seat. I look in the center console, under the iBook ... no sign of it. The ringing stops, replaced by an intermittant beep, every twenty seconds, informing me of voice mail. Four minutes later, my head is under the car seat and my feet are hanging out the sunroof. I'm searching desparately for the source of the voice mail alert. No luck. I grab my computer, the bag of Pepperidge Farms Cheddar Goldfish® Baked Snack Crackers and head upstairs. An hour late for work, at my desk, drinking Yogi DeTox tea, I get an urge for a Pepperidge Farms Cheddar Goldfish® Baked Snack Cracker (or two). I reach into the bag and pull out my cellphone. It kinda reminded me of that time I flicked a lit cigarette over my shoulder and it landed on its end. Kinda...
